Meet the Black SWAN – Omelika Kuumba
Omelika Kuumba is a groundbreaking artist, educator, and cultural leader with over 35 years of experience. A native of Brooklyn and graduate of Spelman College, she has trained under West African masters and performed around the globe—including Stutgart, Germany; Haistings, England; Bermuda; and at the 1996 Olympic Games. As Founder and CEO of Sistah With A Nia, LLC, and Co-founder and Artistic Director Emerita of Giwayen Mata, Omelika has shaped a legacy of empowerment through art.
She is also the visionary behind Soaring High and director of the Metropolitan Atlanta African Dancers and Drummers. Her work bridges tradition, transformation, and personal purpose.

Soaring High is a coterie of artists presenting dance and music with lyrics that are inspiring, joyful, timeless and thought-provoking. Soaring High is an avenue of expression that features accomplished musicians and dancers to showcasing original lyrics, music, and arrangements of traditional African rhythms and songs. Performances bring to mind aspects of African American experiences, challenges, triumphs, love, joy, family values, appreciation of nature, and more.
